Stereo in shallow DOF

The old stereo amplifier bought by my parents around 1980. It doesn't look too bad, and it sounds nice when it works.
Some years ago the stereo system in our living room stopped providing sound through the left speaker. We then invested in a new mini-system the old amplifier and other parts we really didn't need anymore were moved to my room. My father argued to keep the old speakers in the living room, and I rigged the old LP-player with the new system.
In my room upstairs I have been playing around with the old equipment combined with the tiny speakers from the mini-system. Lack of sound from the left was tracked back to a small fuse inside the amplifier, it was broken. By changing the fuse I got sound, but it was crackling and not too good. When turning the volume dial it popped in and out. To solve this some contact spray was applied. It helped, but the procedure has to be repeated regularly. So when coming home from studies wanting to listen to some music from my PC or iPod I have to open and spray the volume dial of the amplifier. A strange routine, but it has to be done to get some sound..
